MV SUNRISE was built by Nuovi Cantieri Apunia, Italy for Renaissance Cruises as a seven
deck, 5 Star “Boutique” cruise liner. 8 of these vessels were built in 2 series for Renaissance by this yard, of which MV SUNRISE is one of the improved 2nd series. The keel of MV SUNRISE
was laid in 1987 and the vessel was launched in 1991. When launched she was named
Renaissance VI.
In the late 1990s, she was sold to Star Cruises who operated her as Megastar Capricorn, mainly
in the Far East. In 2001 she was purchased by Hebridean International Cruise Lines (HICL),
and renamed Hebridean Spirit. At this time she underwent a major refit.
Towards the end of the period of ownership by HICL, she underwent a substantial refit during
which the following work was undertaken:
- Complete overhaul including strip-down and steel replacement of the lifeboat
davits
- Teak Deck works on Mizzen Deck
- Steel work in Sewage Room (Tanktop & one Bulkhead)
- Steel work in Reverse Osmosis Room (Tanktop)
- Deck plating on top of air-conditioning units on Deck 6
- Repair of elevators and dumbwaiters
Our client purchased the vessel in mid 2009 and improvements have been made since then. This work is ongoing, however works carried out already
include:
- All teak decks refurbished
- New chairs throughout lounges
- New carpets throughout guest areas
- New soft furnishings throughout guest areas
- New deck furniture
- 42 inch flat screen TV installed in all guest cabins
- Addition of a discotheque
The fact that MV SUNRISE was originally designed as a Five Star Cruise Vessel makes her
suitable for the conversion to a high volume luxury yacht. The success of one of her
sistership’s(Renaissance 1) conversion to Dubawi bears testament to her potential. Dubawi’s
guest cabins have been reduced in number to 22 suites, and as a result are substantially
enlarged. A main saloon, informal saloon, and nightclub have been created. A number of other
sisterships are also potentially being converted, further underlining the potential of MV SUNRISE.
The vessel is certified to carry 120 guests (operating with 51 crew), however in her last guise,
was carrying typically between 80-96 guests. It would be feasible (and she is currently certified)
to operate her with 36 guests and 36 crew if desired.
Overall, MV SUNRISE is a sturdy, seaworthy, and reliable vessel. To a potential purchaser,
she offers the choice of either continuing to operate as a ‘boutique’ cruise ship, or with the
investment in improvements already made, makes an excellent platform for further modification
and personalisation to be used as a private vessel.
