"Undaunted"- Dauntless Designs by Jon Overing
You may know that I am a big fan of Overing Yacht Design, Jon Overing and I have created a number of wonderful Explorer Yachts and long-range motor yachts over the years.

Dauntless Design by Overing Yacht Design
Several of these vessels were based on Jon's patented fast displacement hull form. This hull form provides the vessels with high efficiency at a wide range of speeds and superb seakeeping. I have personal accounts from captains and owners who all have had a great deal of experience with other full displacement vessels, and they all agreed that Overing designed Explorer Yachts are outstanding.

A quote from the owner of "Undaunted", a 82' design who as a owner operator has cruised her for over 50,000 nautical miles.
'"Undaunted" is a most capable world cruiser with a bulbous bow and 6 watertight bulkheads that can be handled by a couple. She truly lives up to the Dauntless slogan "the Explorer's Explorer".'
"Undaunted" is the smallest of the Overing designs utilizing the fast displacement hull form. (I know at this point there will be a few readers calling "Bullshit, there is no such thing as Fast Displacement"). Please proceed to Overing Yacht designs site, and you can read all about it. https://www.overingyachtdesign.com/ Also please feel free to call Jon directly, he can provide all the data you require.

Dauntless is also one of the few Overing design explorers built in glass. The boat was built in Turkey; I visited it several time during construction and the hull was built using the SCRIMP system and epoxy resin. As with all Overing designs the boat was overbuilt plus, she was commissioned and constructed for a very experienced yachtsman that had already built several Explorer Yachts. Her systems are all well thought out and executed which makes her very easy to operate and keep up.
One of the most interesting things with this design is her 3rd deck. Yes, she looks like a typical 2 deck raised pilothouse design but under the forward lower deck is a 3rd service deck with large laundry area, extra cold storage, dry goods storage, parts storage and access to systems like the stabilizers which are in separate watertight compartments and parts storage.

As an example of what is available to be located in this utility room, Dauntless has the following in hers:
- 2 freezers
- Refrigerator
- 2- washing machines
- 2- clothes dryers
- Soaking sink
- 700 gallon per day water maker
- 1,400 gallon per day water maker
- 30 gallon water heater
- Instant hot water back-up heater
- 2- 120v fresh water pumps
This area is not accessed by a hatch and a vertical ladder but by a comfortable stairway off the galley area. She also 4 guest staterooms including the master, VIP queen forward, another queen and a single cabin all with ensuite heads.
All this volume adds up to a very large Gross Tonnage for a vessel of this length of 136.
Expedition Yacht "Undaunted" Fishing Cockpit

She was originally built with a swim platform but one of the many personal upgrades done buy the present owner was to add a very nice fishing cockpit. It is a true Tournament fishing cockpit:
- 1,000 pound per day Eskimo ice maker (never used)
- Nitrox solutions 450 continuous duty scuba compressor( new and never used)
- 2- large live wells in transom with flow alarm in cockpit and pilot house
- Storage for 8 scuba tanks
- Engine and thruster controls
- Tackle and dive storage lockers
Jon specified twin John Deere 500hp motors for her, I like John Deere engines, and I believe they are an excellent match for this vessel. They provide her with a top speed of 14 knots, high cruising speed of 12 knots and extended cruising speed of 10 knots.
There is also a good size lazarette forward of the cockpit that has a crew cabin for two and a lounge plus additional storage.
The 82' Duantless design offers the space and features of a much larger vessel in a size that can be owner operated or operated with minimal crew.

Yacht "Undaunted" Master Stateroom

One of Three Guest Staterooms
As you move up in the design range of the Dauntless design you gain more expansive staterooms, a large full beam galley which includes breakfast area or a captain's cabin behind the wheelhouse. The utility space can include a walk-in fridge/freezer, large pull-out storage and other features. As the designs grow the lazarette size increases to allow for full pro dive systems and storage plus work benches and machining spaces.
The Dauntless 82' carries a large tender plus jet ski and has a great entertainment area on the fly bridge deck. An expansive space for this size of vessel.

Depending on your requirements the 82' may be the perfect size, with outstanding volume without having to climb stairs continuously.
The Dauntless's owners are in their 70s and operate her with no issues as the layout is very easy to move about and allows the operator to step out of the wheelhouse to the side deck on either side to assist as required. She also has good separation of crew and owner/guests should want crew for long voyages or full time; there is space for everyone.

The larger designs, 92' and up should be operated with crew and again are designed with this in mind so that everyone is comfortable and have their own space.
I look forward to discussing the 82' Dauntless design and luckily we have UNDAUNTED ,a great example that gives us a starting point for the 82' and the larger versions in the series.
Please see below details for UNDAUNTED. THIS IS A OLD LISTING, AT THIS MOMENT SHE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE and is being used as an example of the Duantles designs.
